What is Cerakote?

Is Cerakote heat-resistant?

Yes, Cerakote is heat-resistant, making it ideal for high-temperature applications like firearms and automotive parts. Some Cerakote coatings can withstand temperatures up to 2,000°F.

Will Cerakote affect the functionality of my firearm?

When applied correctly, Cerakote does not affect the functionality of firearms. In fact, it can improve performance by reducing friction and protecting against wear. Tolerances matter, and it is important to have Cerakote applied by a certified applicator.

How is Cerakote applied?

Cerakote is typically applied using a spray gun. The surface is first prepared by cleaning and possibly sandblasting to ensure good adhesion. The coating is then sprayed on in thin, even layers and cured in an oven to achieve its final hardness.

How long does Cerakote last?

With proper care, Cerakote will last many years. Its durability largely depends on the conditions it’s exposed to, such as extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals. Like all coatings, it is not indestructible but it is the most durable firearm coating available today.

How do I care for Cerakote?

Cerakote is relatively low maintenance. It’s resistant to most cleaning chemicals, but it’s best to avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing tools. Regular cleaning with a mild soap and water should suffice.

Is Cerakote only for firearms?

No, Cerakote is not limited to firearms. It’s used on a wide range of items including knives, automotive parts, tools, and even some types of jewelry and household items.

Does Cerakote come in different colors and finishes?

What are leadtimes for Cerakote services?

Changes every week. Customer should expect to drop projects off for 1-4 weeks depending on complexity and how busy the shop is.
